Some people are naturally drawn to Peru to catch a glimpse of any trace of the Inca Empire they can soak in with their eyes and bathe in shadows of ancient mythology. The country offers historic pyramids, ruins and unbelievable churches but then there are others, however, that see Peru, not as a historical staple of the world, but rather for its unmatchable beauty. The snow-capped mountains part ways to allow light into the green valleys that are homes to amazing cities. Beautiful beaches, jungles and some of the fastest and undoubtedly the best rapids to ride in the world is what this country offers you. Peru truly has something for everyone.
Iquitos

This is a beautiful, tropical city, often referred to as an “urban oasis”. It is isolated and has the duty of being the chief town in Peru's jungle area. It is generally safe, since becoming such a hot travel destination location and is the ideal place to enter the Peruvian Amazon jungle. This is the only location in the jungle that offers Victoria Regia lilies and pink dolphins.
Urubamba

Snow-capped peak, glaciers and a mild climate will draw you into this adventurous city. This is the largest city in the famous Sacred Valley from the Incas and is located near a number of Inca Empire ruins. Aside from the historical benefits of the city, Urubamba has some of the best white water rafting in the entire world where you will view some breathtaking scenery of the Andes plunging into Canyons in the Upper Amazon. This is a rafter's paradise.
Armantani

This city, on an island is peaceful, beautiful and well worth visiting. There are visits there daily by boat that will cost you only about $1 US dollar. Temples find their home there along with a stone carved throne. The city offers several fiestas a year where visitors are welcome to dress up and participate. The dwellers make gorgeous textiles along with basketwork and stoneware that is always for sale.
Huanchaco

This city is the surf and fishing hot spot. The north part of the city offers beautiful beaches and reeds perfect for birdwatching. Fishermen are happy to drive you around the waters for a nice tip but be prepared to get wet; these waters can get rough. The city is full of beach houses overlooking the oldest church in Peru owned by only the wealthiest. The breeze here is cool but the sun is powerful. Wear a sunblock or you will get burned!
Nazca

A desert oasis in a green valley that finds itself completely surrounded by mountains is the city of Nazca. Thousands of people a year are drawn to the city to fly over and view the odd lines that were etched into the plains. No one to this day knows what these lines mean. Cerro Blanco, the biggest sand dune in the entire world overlooks the city and has given it a popular vacation title for paragliding and sand-boarding.
Pomata

The Santiago Apóstol church made of stunning red sandstone stands in this majestic city. It is a small, simple location that overlooks the lake and anyone that visits the city, usually has no desire to view the beauty of the lake, only the church. People visit from all over the world to surround themselves with the magic of this one of a kind building. The windows are made of alabaster and the interior boasts painted columns, unbelievable statues and a Spanish tile floor. The church alone warrants a trip to Peru.
Cusco

This city was once the Inca capital and has now transitioned into being the tourist capital. Each church, house and stone tells a story of the Inca history. This city has been known to cast a spell over you. It is no surprise why the population has tripled in the past 20 years; no one ever wants to leave. Cusco is the beginning of the Machu Picchu tour to the Incas holy valley. The city is lined with expensive restaurants, plenty of pubs and welcoming people.
Arequipa

Traveling down the El Misti Volcano to the bottom you will find a beautiful valley that houses the city of Arequipa. It has grown into a truly magnificent city full of interesting churches and old Spanish buildings. Don't forget your camera here, the views are magical!
Pisac

The little city of Pisac is found about 30km to the north of Cusco and seems to be a growing favorite among tourists. Inca ruins are perched on a mountain above the town that are considered some of the best ruins in the valley. This however, is not the draw bringing visitors to this city. People flock to Pisac in large amounts to visit the Sunday morning market where you will fine unique, handmade clothing, crafts and home decorations. This city is usually offered as part of a tour from Cusco and is one not to be missed.
Lima

Many years ago, Lima was thought of as only a transfer lounge to tourists visiting Peru. This is simply not the case anymore as many people now come to Peru just to explore this great city. It finds itself draped over Pacific cliffs with white beaches that linger below. Ancient pyramids sit beside glass sky-scrapers an the entire city fights for a place between past and present. Museums house pre-Columbian archeological finds and many will say that Lima has some of the best restaurants in Latin America. The city offers rustic beaches and clubs you can dance at until dawn.
